This year’s BCPGA Buying Show will take place at the Richmond Olympic Oval on October 16-17th. Show hours are from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Wednesday and from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Thursday, giving you plenty of time to make the rounds and talk to all of the vendors. The show is very accessible, situated only 5 minutes from the Vancouver International Airport and only 20 minutes from the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal. The PGA of BC Golf Awards show will also take place on October 16th, from 6:00pm- 8:00pm at the River Rock Casino Resort. The event will honour the efforts of the members and partners of the organization. This is a great opportunity for managers to get some face time with influential people in the British Columbia golf industry.
Attending buying events is highly valuable for golf operators. Think of it as a one-stop shop for all of your business needs. You’ll discover new products you might not have heard of and compare and contrast competing products, all in the same place. Getting this hands-on experience allows you to be much more confident in making purchase decisions since you’re not relying solely on what one salesperson and online reviews tell you. Shopping online and over the phone is convenient, but being able to have a face-to-face interaction with the people behind the products is invaluable.
If you already have an idea of what you need to shop for, it’s wise to do your research beforehand. That way, you won’t get overwhelmed by a bunch of new information being thrown at you by competing companies. You may also want to prepare a list of questions for the different vendors that you’re interested in to ensure that you get all the information you need on the day of the event. Make sure that you don’t ignore certain vendors because you’ve been buying their competitors’ products for ages, it’s worth it to take a look at everyone, you might not know what you’re missing out on.
If you’re using a cloud-based tee sheet with inventory management integrations, it’s a great idea to bring a tablet with you. You’ll be able to log in to your software to check the status of your inventory so you know how much to order at the show and you’ll be able to update your inventory right there so you don’t forget anything.
It’s also important to keep in mind that other golf operators and vendors are travelling from far and wide to attend this event, so dressing in business casual attire is a must. Not only is this required by the event itself, showing that you mean business will help you build good relationships and close deals.
