Chronogolf is the preferred club management software of the CGCOA, NGCOA Arizona and NVGCOA

Today, Chronogolf, one of the foremost providers of club management software, and the California (CGCOA), Arizona (NGCOA Arizona) and Nevada (NVGCOA) affiliate associations of the NGCOA, cumulatively serving over 400 member courses, announced a new strategic alliance. The alliance will combine the Golf Course Owners Association’s expertise in educating their members with Chronogolf’s market leading club management tools to ultimately help owners grow their facilities by leveraging web applications, cloud technology, and mobility.

As a start, all three affiliate associations are offering their respective members preferred pricing on Chronogolf’s suite of club management software with discounts ranging from 20 to 50% off all plans that include tee sheet management, pro shop POS, restaurant POS, member management, and website development.

As we enter a new era of golf, our members must be able to leverage and embrace new technologies to better manage their facilities and remain competitive.

This is why we are working with Chronogolf. Our belief is that the future of golf course management software is constantly evolving, and that Chronogolf is well positioned to meet those changing demands.

– Marc Connerly, Executive Director of CGCOA, NGCOA Arizona and NVGCOA

Together, Chronogolf, CGCOA, NVGCOA and NGCOA Arizona are working to address the day-to-day difficulties that so many of their members are facing today. This partnership builds on the momentum Chronogolf has been generating this year, after opening new offices, partnering with Teeoff.com for distribution, and appointing a new VP of Corporate Development.

NVGCOA has also invited Chronogolf to join their annual meeting on August 15th as a guest speaker. They will be sharing best practices on how to use technology to make informed decisions and develop an effective online booking strategy.

“We are very pleased to form a strategic alliance with all three affiliates of the NGCOA. By combining our expertise, we can make a true difference and improve overall golf course performance in these areas,” said Matt Welliver, VP of Corporate Development at Chronogolf.

Welliver welcomes all CGCOA, NVGCOA, and NGCOA Arizona members to contact him directly to learn more about the alliance and how it benefits them.

The United States Open Championship is starting today!

The U.S. Open is the 2nd major of the year,  following the Masters won by Spanish golfer Sergio Garcia. This year’s event will be played at Erin Hill Golf Club in Erin, Wisconsin.  Here’s a quick overview of this legendary championship.

Erin Hills Logo trans background 300x95 - Everything you need to know about the 2017 U.S. Open

1. This year’s course has a very traditional set-up, with narrow fairways, thick rough and firm fast conditions.  It is regarded as a “Heartland” course (not a links course) by its designers. Dana Fry, one of the course designers, said: “We want to make sure that distinction is made,” “A Heartland course is in between a parkland course and a links.

2. Bunkers. There are 138 bunkers. Most of them have no flat bottom, meaning they’re “real” hazards for the TOUR pros who miss the greens. The U.S. Open is widely regarded as the toughest of all four majors – and this year’s edition won’t be an exception.

3. The official yardage for Erin Hills is 7,741 yards, making it the longest course in the tournament’s 117 years history. Obviously, the range will vary each round according to the setup, but the course will remain very, very long.

4. Sunday’s last six holes will be the most exciting. They’re composed of two par 5s (holes 14, 18), two par 4s (holes 15, 17) and two par 3s (holes 13, 16). Having two par 5s on the back side will most likely create a lot of tension on the course. Get ready to see some swings on the leaderboard!

5. This is the first time a U.S. Open takes place in Wisconsin. The first 116 U.S. Open took place in the Great Lakes (68), New York (18), Pennsylvania (17), Illinois (13), Ohio (7), Michigan (6) and Minnesota (4). Wisconsin boasts 700,000 golfers among its 5.7M residents. “They’ve waited a long time for this chance,” said USGA president Diana Murphy.

6. Tiger Woods’s first U.S. Open victory was at Pebble Beach in 2000. He won by a record 15 strokes, closing at a four-under 67.

7. Rory McIlroy was aged 22 when he won by eight strokes in the 2011 U.S. Open, with a tournament low of 16-under 268 for 72 holes.

8. Jordan Spieth became the youngest U.S. Open champion since Jones in 1923 when he won at Chambers Bay in 2015 at 21 years old.

9. This year’s defending champion is Dustin Johnson, who won last year’s championship at Oakmont with a 1-under 69.

10. In 1974, the USGA Competition Committee Chairman Sandy Tatum defended the course set-up saying “We’re not trying to humiliate the best players in the world, we’re simply trying to identify them.”

5 Reasons to Watch the 2017 Players Championship

playersheader - 5 Reasons to Watch the 2017 Players Championship

It’s that time of the year – the Players Championship is finally back!
Here’s 5 good reasons to watch the tournament over the next four days.

1. It’s a very challenging course

The Player’s Championship is held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. This year’s edition is the 36th at the Stadium course. It’s known for being hazardous and difficult – most often because of its 17th hole nicknamed the “Island Green”. The 17th is a 137 yards par 3 surrounded by water. Every year, over 100,000 golf balls end up in the surrounding water.

A post shared by Chronogolf (@chronogolf) on

2. Discover the world’s best new players

Although The Players Championship is often won by high-profile golfers, some newer players try and sometimes succeed in winning it. This year, Spanish pro-golfer John Ram is one of these. In the last year, he climbed more than 500 places in the official world golf ranking up to the 12th spot. His entry to the next championships was guaranteed by his first win on the PGA tour at the Farmers Insurance Open, with a 60-foot eagle putt on the final hole. See it here:

3. The Players Championship is nicknamed golf’s 5th Major

While there are only 4 official majors every year, the Players is often considered the “5th major”. Why? Because it’s a challenging course and because only the best players how up. The level of the players and the enormous winner’s purse makes this tournament just as exciting as the 4 other majors. The Players also fills in the gap between the Masters and the U.S. Open, ahead of a busy golf summer.

4. Will Jason Day win twice in a row?

No player has ever won the Players twice in a row, but some have won multiple times. Jack Nicklaus is the only player to have won 3 Players Championship in his career, while Couples, Elkington, Sutton, Love III and Woods all won twice. Will last year’s winner Jason Day be the first to win twice in a row?

5. A weekend full of surprises

The Player’s Championship is always full of surprises. You never know who will win until Sunday’s the last few holes. This year, the course’s 12th hole was also revamped. The par 4 is now 270 yards long, but because of the way it has been set up, most players will hesitate to start it with a drive. Additionally, there is close to $2M in prizes for the winner, totaling over $10M in cash prizes.

CHRONOGOLF PARTNERS WITH TEEOFF.COM BY PGA TOUR FOR TEE TIME DISTRIBUTION

MONTREAL and CHICAGO – May 11, 2017 – Chronogolf, provider of golf operational software including tee sheets and point-of-sale, today announced that they have partnered with Chicago-based TeeOff.com by PGA TOUR and its sister site Golf18Network to distribute tee times for their 400+ courses. The announcement gives Chronogolf operators a new channel to promote their course online, and makes it easier than ever for golfers to book a round at their favorite course using Chronogolf technology.

Beginning this month, visitors to TeeOff.com or golf18network.com can reserve tee times at leading Chronogolf courses like St. Mary’s Golf & Country Club (Western Ontario) and Newcastle Golf Course (eastern edge of Greater Toronto). TeeOff.com by PGA TOUR is the official tee time reservation site of the PGA TOUR, offers no booking fees for golfers, and is the fastest growing online tee time reservation site on the web.

“We talked with other tee time distributors, but the fact that TeeOff.com by PGA TOUR is backed by the most powerful name in golf, has a pay-for-performance model, and is growing quickly made this an easy decision for us. Plus, TeeOff.com’s affiliate network gives our client courses even more exposure to golfers looking to book their next round.

TeeOff.com by PGA TOUR and Golf18Network are operated by EZLinks Golf, a PGA TOUR affiliated company with its own 20-year history serving the golf industry. “TeeOff.com by PGA TOUR and Golf18Network are powerful marketing tools for golf courses looking to reach the growing base of golfers booking online,” said Gary Cohen, chief executive officer, EZLinks Golf. “Adding these outstanding Chronogolf courses strengthens our presence and further allows us to connect thousands of golf courses with millions of golfers and to drive sales for our partners.”

Major Championships: The Masters Tournament at Augusta National

Are you excited for one of the biggest golf event of the year?
The Masters Tournament is starting today!

The Masters Tournament is the first of 4 major championships held every year in professional golf. It is held at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia since 1934. The Masters Tournament is an invitational type of event where every year, thousands of golfers gather to see who will play the lowest score on this incredibly complex course. Winning the Masters is one of the biggest achievements any professional golfer can dream of. This year again, the world’s best golf players, such as Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Jason Day, Justin Rose, Rickie Fowler, Phil Mckilson are all dreaming about winning the Masters.

When a player wins the tournament, the tradition is that he will receive his own green sports jacket. The tradition was established by Augusta National Golf Club co-founder Clifford Roberts, and has been going on since 1949. It’s also a tradition for the previous year’s winner to help the new winner put on his new jacket during the closing ceremony.

In addition to the jacket, winners receive a gold medal and have their name engraved on the master’s trophy. Winners of the Masters Tournament are automatically invited to the three other major championships for the next 5 years and will receive lifetime invitations to the Masters. Players who perform great feats are also eligible to receive various luxurious gifts. For example, the player with the lowest daily score receives a crystal vase, the players who manage to score a double eagle or score a hole-in-one win a large crystal bowl, and the players receive crystal goblets for every eagle they make.

Before the tournament, there is the popular Par 3 contest. First introduced in 1960, it’s usually played a day before the tournament.  Players compete for the lowest score on this 9-hole course where every hole is a short par 3. The winner of the Par-3 contest receives a crystal bowl, although no par 3 contest winner has ever won the masters tournament. Golfers can also use their own children as caddies, making this a fun and family-oriented day. In 2015, there were more than 9 hole-in-one during the round, and in 2016, Camilo Villegas blew everyone away after he scored 2 hole-in-ones in the same round.

Augusta is one of the most beautiful golf course in the world, with its lush vegetation, colorful flowers, carefully designed sand traps and beautifully maintained fairways. The par 72 course is 7,435 yards long and offers spectacular views and uncountable challenges. In the next few days, the best golf players in the world will compete on the course but only one will win a green jacket. Who do you think will win? Spieth, McIlroy, Mickelson? There are so many great players, it’s hard to say. One thing that’s for sure is that there will be a lot of surprises. Enjoy your Masters!

Fun facts:
  • Jack Nicklaus has won 6 Masters, Arnold Palmer won 4 and Tiger Woods won 4, as well.
  • It’s common for TV broadcasters to add sounds of birds during the game to create more of an “exotic” feeling on television.
  • A rumour says that there’s blue dye in the water ponds at Augusta National to make them look better.
  • The official member list is secret – if you want to be a member, you have to be invited.
  • In May, on the very last day the club is open before closing for the summer, Augusta National’s caddies play free all day.

EDIT: Sergio Garcia has won the 201 7 Masters Tournament.

Our North Carolina spotlight destination course is none other than the world famous Pinehurst Golf Resort. Founded in 1898, Pinehurst is located in the heart of North Carolina Sandhills and is nicknamed “the cradle of American golf”. This legendary club features 9 distinct courses, with 3 of them dating back to the early 1900s.

A wonderful atmosphere reigns at Pinehurst, thanks to the relaxed southern hospitality and the calming scenery. It offers golf players of every level the chance to travel back in time and play on some of the world’s most legendary fairways. Playing at Pinehurst is understandably something every golf player dreams of doing at least once in its life.

The famous Pinehurst No 2 course, with its majestic woodland, has been one of the world’s top golf destination since its opening in 1907 and continues to attract thousands of golfers every year. The no 2 course was revitalized in 2011 following a $2.5M investment to improve on each individual holes. The course was designed by Donald Ross, legendary golf course architect with more than 400 golf courses design under his belt. He called it “the fairest test of championship golf I have ever designed.”

Pinehurst has hosted more championships than any other golf course in the country, welcoming legends such as Jack Nicklaus and Payne Stewart. It was featured on the 2017-18 list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and was unsurprisingly described as “nothing short of spectacular” by Golf Digest.

Over the next 9 weeks, we’ll be travelling down the east coast of the US – kicking things off from our Montreal headquarters with a goal of reaching Orlando by January 25th 2017 – just in time for the PGA Merchandise Show. It will be our first time exhibiting at the show, so we really want to make an experience out of it. Catch us at booth #3005 in the Technology Pavilion.

9 WEEK ITINERARY
